There are free V-Bucks in Fortnite, but they arrive by two very different routes: each pass's free track and the Save the World campaign, the latter only for Founder accounts.
What is the fastest and most efficient way to get V-Bucks in Fortnite?
V-Bucks are Fortnite's single currency and are used on the battle pass, the item shop and the passes for the parallel modes. Epic sells them in bundles, but also gives them back as a progression reward: the paid pass refunds more than it costs if you complete it, and the free track hands out a smaller amount without paying anything. The other historic source, Save the World, is closed off to new accounts.

Daily and weekly quests to level up
Your pass level rises with experience, and most of that comes from quests: some refresh each day, others arrive weekly or through events. Completing them is what brings you closer to the tiers where the V-Bucks sit. The difference between falling short and completing the free track is usually half an hour a day during the heavy weeks. It is worth reviewing the list before you play and chaining objectives that can be met in the same match.

Save the World daily quests
The co-op campaign hands out V-Bucks through daily quests, and if you skip a day they stack up to three so you can claim them together. Anyone joining now gets access to the mode, but not to those rewards.

Mission alerts and campaign events
The Save the World map rotates alerts with rewards visible before you go in, and some of them hand out V-Bucks. Added to the dailies, they keep a steady trickle going without needing to touch battle royale. Once again, it only counts if your account carries the Founder's pack.

Campaign and shelter defences in Save the World
Beyond the dailies, the main campaign line drops V-Bucks for clearing certain milestones, above all the shelter defences that mark the transition between zones. It pays out once per account and never repeats, so it works as a starting cushion rather than as income. The same condition applies as with the rest of Save the World: the reward is reserved for Founder accounts.

Free track of the battle pass
Every season, the pass includes a free track open to everyone with loose items and several V-Bucks payouts. You do not have to buy anything: just level up by playing. The amount comes to around three hundred V-Bucks a season, so three or four seasons in a row cover the paid pass, which in turn gives back more than it costs. It is the most sensible long-term plan for an account that does not spend.

Epic hands out rewards through collaborations, anniversaries and campaigns with manufacturers or platforms, and some include balance. They are redeemed from your Epic Games account or from the relevant platform store, never on third-party sites. Any page promising V-Bucks in exchange for your username is after your account, not rewarding you.

How do you get the V-Bucks on the pass's free track?
By levelling up your season level. Experience comes from daily, weekly and event quests, and also from playing normal matches. The free track's V-Bucks are placed on specific levels and unlock when you reach them, with no need to buy the pass. If you complete the free track before the season ends, that balance stays on your account and carries over to the next one.
Why does Save the World no longer hand out V-Bucks to new accounts?
When the mode went free in April 2026, Epic kept the currency rewards tied to the original Founder's pack, which is no longer on sale. Accounts that bought it back then still get paid for daily quests and alerts; accounts joining now play the full campaign but receive materials and heroes instead of V-Bucks.
How long does the paid battle pass take to pay for itself?
The pass costs 800 V-Bucks and gives back around 1,000 if you complete it in full, so it pays for itself and leaves room for the next one. The key is finishing it: if you drop out mid-season, you do not recoup the investment. By stacking the three hundred annual V-Bucks from the free track, an account that spends nothing can enter that cycle after several seasons.
How do you recognise a real Epic promotion?
Legitimate promotions are announced on Fortnite's official channels and redeemed inside your Epic Games account or in your console's store. They do not ask for a password in external forms, or for your username to deposit balance, or for downloads outside the official stores. If the process involves surveys, human verification or sharing a link, it is an account-harvesting scam.
