If the figure looks high, waiting a few days is usually enough, except right after a heavily demanded item launches.
What are the consequences of buying gold from an outside seller?
The terms of use expressly forbid it and ArenaNet punishes both buying and selling, removing the gold and suspending the account. Add to that the fact that these transactions tend to feed account theft and bot use.
