HearthstoneHow to Get the Most Free Gold in Hearthstone
Hearthstone has no premium-only currency: the gold that buys packs is earned by playing. Arcane dust, on the other hand, only comes from disenchanting cards.
What is the fastest and most efficient way to get Gold in Hearthstone?
Hearthstone's economy revolves around two resources. Gold buys packs and Arena entries, and you get it by advancing the reward track with the experience your games award. Arcane dust is the crafting material: it is not sold, it is generated by disenchanting cards you do not want and spent on crafting exactly the one you are missing. Daily and weekly quests no longer hand out gold directly since the progression rework; what they give is experience, and gold arrives afterwards as a reward from the track's levels.
Every day
- Experience for the reward track
Daily quests
Every day you are assigned a quest, and you can bank several before they start expiring. Watch out for the important detail: since the progression system was reworked, these quests hand out experience, not gold in hand. That experience is what pushes the track along, and gold shows up at the track's levels. You can reroll one quest per day, so it is worth swapping the ones that force you to play classes you are not comfortable with for something that suits your collection better.
Every week
- Large blocks of experience per week
Weekly quests
Alongside the dailies there is a weekly batch that hands out considerably larger amounts of experience. They are designed to be chipped away at over several days, so there is no need to sit down and clear them in one go. They usually ask for volume: play a certain number of games, cast spells or summon minions of a given type. For a player who only logs in a couple of times a week, they are the main source of progress and the real engine behind the reward track.
- One pack per week for a single win
Weekly Tavern Brawl
The Tavern Brawl changes every week with its own rules and often lets you play with pre-built or randomly generated decks. Your first win of the week hands over a free pack, and since many Brawl formats are chaotic and quick, it is one of the cheapest rewards in the whole game in terms of time. Even if you play nothing else, logging in once a week to win a single game already adds a pack to your collection at no cost.
One time only
- Arcane dust proportional to the rarity you scrap
Disenchant duplicates and cards you no longer play
Dust is not earned by playing: it is extracted from your own collection. Packs hand out duplicates constantly, and those duplicates are pure material. The prudent approach is to disenchant only what is genuinely surplus plus the extra copies of golden cards, which pay back more. Before scrapping a card rotating out of Standard, think twice: it is still playable in Wild, and recrafting it later costs considerably more dust than it gave you.
- Extra experience and one-off items
Achievements and event rewards
The achievement system pays experience for milestones you hit simply by playing: wins with each class, specific cards played, collection milestones. They pay out only once, but they add a noticeable push to the track when you are starting out or when an expansion arrives with new achievements. On top of that come the anniversary events and Blizzard's occasional campaigns, which usually gift packs or specific cards just for logging in during the event window.
Events only
- Gold, packs, legendary cards and Arena tickets
Free lane of the reward track
Every expansion resets the track, and the free lane hands out a mix of gold, packs, golden cards, a specific legendary or two and Arena tickets. You do not have to buy anything to access it: accumulating experience is enough. Since the track resets with each expansion, the sensible pace is to play spread out across the whole cycle rather than cramming into the final weeks, because the higher levels need a fair amount of banked experience.
- Gold, dust and packs depending on the run's wins
Arena with tickets from the track
Arena is paid for with gold or with tavern tickets, and the latter drop from the reward track for free. Each run hands out a chest whose contents scale with the wins you managed: it always includes a pack, and past a certain threshold it starts returning gold and dust. It is the route with the highest ceiling for a free player, but also the one most dependent on skill, so use the free tickets first before risking gold.
What does not work
No generator can add Gold to your Hearthstone account: the balance is handled on the gameβs servers and there is no way to touch it from outside. If you arrived looking for one, we explain in detail how they work on the inside and why they always end the same way.

How do you get gold in Hearthstone now that quests no longer give it?
Gold arrives through the reward track. Daily and weekly quests hand out experience, that experience levels up the track, and several of those levels pay in gold. The Arena chest also pays gold past a certain number of wins. In practice the loop is the same as it always was, just with an extra step in the middle: you play, you bank experience and you cash in when you level up.
How much arcane dust does a competitive deck take to build?
It depends on how many legendaries and epics the list includes, which is where almost all of the cost sits. The cheap way in is to start with archetypes whose core is commons and rares, play them while you bank dust, and save legendary crafts for cards that show up across several different lists. Crafting a specific legendary for a deck you might abandon in two weeks is the most expensive mistake there is.
What should you do with packs, open them or save them?
Saving packs makes sense right before a new expansion, because packs from the incoming set can usually be stockpiled and opening them all at launch takes advantage of the legendary protection on your first packs. Outside that window, opening them as soon as possible is better: the cards go into your collection, duplicates turn into dust and that dust starts working for you right away.
Why is the Tavern Brawl the most efficient activity of the week?
Because the cost is minimal and the payout is immediate. One win is enough to walk away with a full pack, and many Brawl formats resolve in short games or with decks the mode builds for you. Compared with the time it takes to earn a pack through gold, the ratio is clearly favourable. It is the first place to go if you only have fifteen minutes a week.
