How to Get the Most Free Gold in MTG Arena

In MTG Arena gems are bought and gold is earned by playing, but there is a bridge between the two: draft events turn gold into gems if you can string together enough wins.

What is the fastest and most efficient way to get Gold in MTG Arena?

MTG Arena runs on two currencies and a crafting system. Gold is the currency generated by playing and it cannot be bought; it covers packs and event entries. Gems are acquired with money, but they also come out as prizes from entry-fee events, which is the only sustained route for a free player. On top of that sits crafting: every pack advances your wildcard counter and duplicates fill the Vault, which in turn pays back wildcards when it fills up.

Every day

  • 250 gold for the first win and 100 for the next two

    Daily wins

The system pays for winning, with diminishing rewards through the day up to the fifteenth win. The first win of the day hands over 250 gold and the second and third 100 each, so the first few games are by far the most profitable per minute. For a player short on time, the optimal routine is to log in, grab three or four wins with a fast deck and close the app. Wins also feed experience into the mastery pass.

  • 500 or 750 gold per quest, plus 500 experience

    Daily quests

One quest is added per day up to a maximum of three, so you can be away for a couple of days without losing anything. Most pay 500 gold and some pay 750, and all of them add experience towards the pass. You can reroll one quest per day: the standard play is to discard the 500s hunting for a 750, or to swap out the ones demanding colours you have not built. Combined with daily wins, they are the bulk of your income.

Every week

  • Gem and pack prizes proportional to your wins

Turn gold into gems through draft

This is the only real bridge between free gold and gems. Quick Draft costs 5,000 gold or 750 gems, and the prize table scales with the run's wins; past a certain number of wins, the gem payout exceeds what entering with gems would have cost. A competent player can chain entries almost indefinitely. A player still learning the format loses gold, so it is worth practising the set before diving in.

  • Cards, packs and experience with no entry cost

    Free-entry events during the week

Arena schedules rotating events with no entry cost and quirky formats that change every week: pre-built decks, altered rules or constructed decks with restrictions. They hand out cards or packs for your first wins and add experience to the pass. Since they cost no gold, they are a clean way to progress without risking your balance, and along the way they let you try cards from sets you do not own before deciding whether to spend wildcards on them.

One time only

  • Packs or cosmetics, redeemable once per account

    Official promo codes

Wizards publishes codes tied to set launches, streams and specific campaigns. They are redeemed from the game's own store and usually give packs from the set in question or a cosmetic. Each code is used once per account and many expire, so it pays to redeem them as soon as they are announced through the game's official channels. Any code list promising unlimited gems is fake: official codes never hand out gems freely.

  • Guaranteed wildcards every so many packs

    Wildcards and the Vault

Packs are not just random cards: each one advances a counter that guarantees wildcards at fixed intervals, at a rate of roughly one uncommon and one rare wildcard every six packs, with mythics arriving after several batches of rares. On top of that, opening cards you already have at maximum copies fills the Vault, and when it fills it pays back a batch of wildcards. That is why opening packs is never wasted money even when duplicates come out.

Events only

  • Packs, orbs and items across the set's season

Free lane of the mastery pass

Every set brings its own pass, and all players have access to the free lane without paying anything. It drips out packs from the new set and mastery orbs as you bank experience from quests and wins. It does not hand out gems, but the packs it gives feed directly into the wildcard counter, which is the resource that really decides which decks you can build. Since it resets with every set, it pays to spread your play across the whole cycle.

What does not work

No generator can add Gold to your MTG Arena account: the balance is handled on the game’s servers and there is no way to touch it from outside. If you arrived looking for one, we explain in detail how they work on the inside and why they always end the same way.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get free gems in MTG Arena?

There is no source that simply gives them away. The sustained route is entering draft events with gold and coming out with a gem prize: if you get enough wins, the payout beats the entry and you can reinvest it. That means knowing the current set's limited format. Beyond that, official codes hand out packs and cosmetics, not gems, and anyone promising otherwise is lying.

How much gold can you gather in a normal week of play?

Between the three daily quests and the first wins of the day, a steady half-hour-a-day routine leaves several thousand gold per week. The exact total depends on how many 750 quests you draw and how many wins you rack up before the rewards taper off. At that pace you reach the price of a Quick Draft entry within a few days, which is the free player's usual target.

What should you buy first with gold, packs or event entries?

It depends on your level at limited. If you handle drafting well, entries return more because they pay back packs, gems and cards at once. If you are still learning, packs from the current set are safer because they advance the wildcard counter regardless of your results. The expensive mistake is spending gold on drafts while systematically losing in the early rounds.

Why is it worth opening packs even when you get duplicate cards?

Because duplicates are not lost. Every pack advances the counter that guarantees wildcards at fixed intervals, and cards you already own at maximum copies go into the Vault, which pays back a batch of wildcards when it fills. Wildcards are what actually let you craft the specific card missing from your deck, so opening packs always moves you towards that goal even when the immediate contents disappoint.
