How to Get the Most Free Gold in Top Drives

Top Drives is a card game about cars, not a driving game: here Gold goes on packs, garage slots and shortcuts. Earning it for free is slow, but perfectly systematic.

What is the fastest and most efficient way to get Gold in Top Drives?

In Top Drives you do not drive: you pick cards and the race is resolved using each car's real performance figures. Cash pays for upgrades and is topped up by selling duplicate cards. Gold is the expensive currency: it buys packs, garage slots, vehicle services and the shortcut that skips the fusion timer when you take an upgrade up a stage. It is earned mostly as a drip, from prize boards and ads, and in the high tiers of competitive events.

Every day

  • Gold on every view, with better amounts if you chain them

The Earn Free Gold ad button

The main menu includes a button dedicated to watching ads in exchange for Gold. Hutch confirms that consecutive views improve the gift, so it is worth chaining them in the same session rather than watching one and leaving. It is the smallest source per unit and the most reliable over time: it does not depend on your RQ, on the cards you own or on the active season. For a young account, this button and the prize boards are practically all the Gold there is.

  • Gold, Cash, experience and car cards, depending on what is left on the board

    Stars and prize boards

Winning races earns stars, and stars open picks on each round's prize boards. Those boards mix Cash, Gold, experience and car cards, and show at the bottom which vehicles are still available and at what rarity. The detail that matters is that the star thresholds change with the track, so a wide margin of victory in an easy event pays more than scraping through a hard one. Clearing out pending campaign boards is the most direct way to build up Gold.

  • Prizes by tier; the Gold is concentrated in the high steps

    Daily multiplayer events

Events pit your team against other players' ghosts and refresh daily. Each attempt uses an entry: one is restored every half hour up to a maximum of five, and skipping the wait costs a hundred Gold. That is the trap, because spending Gold to play more events rarely covers the Gold they give back. On top of that, some prize tiers need a minimum number of races before they unlock, so it is worth looking at that lock before deciding how much you are going to play.

Every week

  • Cash and Gold when each season closes, according to your club's position

Club events and the weekly season

From RQ 250 you pick a club from three factions and compete week by week for control of sectors on a map. Each club event hands out Cash and club experience based on whether your side won the sector, how many races you ran, where you finished and your rank within the club. When the season closes there is a payout according to the standings. Watch out for the reward multiplier that appears at the end: it is paid for with Gold and only affects the following events.

  • Renown in the prize tiers of the 48 and 72 hour events, capped at 1,000

    Renown for the championships

The forty-eight and seventy-two hour events hand out Renown in their prize tiers. That currency is not spent in the shop: it funds championship races, and each race consumes an amount. The accumulation cap is one thousand units, so letting it grow unused is the same as throwing rewards away. The sensible approach is to alternate: build Renown up in the week's long events and burn it in the championship before the counter fills again.

One time only

  • Immediate Cash, but the card is gone for good

    Selling duplicate cards

From the garage you can sell any card for Cash. It is the fastest way to fund upgrades when the garage fills up, and in Top Drives space is limited by slots. Hutch's warning is explicit: the sale is final and the card does not come back. Before selling it is worth leaning on the unique and duplicate filters, and remembering that event restrictions change every season; a car that is useless today can be next month's entry requirement.

Events only

  • Veteran Tokens redeemable in a catalogue that rotates periodically

    Monthly Veteran Challenges

Veteran Challenges are monthly content aimed at mature garages. They hand out Veteran Tokens that are redeemed in their own exchange, with a prize catalogue that rotates periodically. They are not Gold directly, but they replace purchases you would otherwise pay Gold for. For a free account with years of collection behind it, this is the route that makes the best use of old cards, which elsewhere in the game are barely any use against the newly added ones.

What does not work

No generator can add Gold to your Top Drives account: the balance is handled on the game’s servers and there is no way to touch it from outside. If you arrived looking for one, we explain in detail how they work on the inside and why they always end the same way.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Gold in Top Drives without buying it?

Three ways: the ad button on the main menu, the prize boards that open when you win stars in campaign and challenges, and the high tiers of the competitive events and club seasons. None of them hands out large amounts at once. The difference between an account that progresses and one that stalls is clearing pending boards instead of repeating events.

What is the best thing to spend Gold on?

Garage slots before packs. Gold buys packs, services, slots and the skip on the fusion timer when you take an upgrade up a stage, and that last cost grows the more time is left on the clock. With few slots you will end up selling cards to make room, and that is irreversible; with space, you can wait for the event that gives value to what you already own.

How do event entries work?

Each event has its own counter: one entry is restored every thirty minutes and you can bank up to five. Buying entries costs a hundred Gold, a price that almost never pays off. The efficient approach is to log in twice a day, spend the entries you have banked and let the counter refill while you are not playing, rather than emptying it in one sitting and then waiting.

How does RQ shape what you can win?

RQ is your race quota: it sets the total performance you can bring to an event. Multiplayer unlocks at RQ 45 and club events at RQ 250, and many events cap the maximum RQ allowed. You raise it by winning experience cards from the prize boards. A high RQ opens modes, but it also shuts you out of the low-end events, which tend to be the most profitable.
