How to Get the Most Free Bloodpoints in Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight's Auric Cells are bought with real money and there is no legitimate way to earn them by playing. What you can build up for free are Bloodpoints and Iridescent Shards.

What is the fastest and most efficient way to get Bloodpoints in Dead by Daylight?

Dead by Daylight splits its purchases across several currencies. Auric Cells are the paid currency: they cover licences, exclusive outfits and the Rift Pass. Bloodpoints are the progression currency and are only spent in the Bloodweb to level up killers and survivors. Iridescent Shards are the free currency, used to buy original characters and Shrine perks. None of the three converts into another inside the game.

Every day

  • Up to 40,000 Bloodpoints per full match

Play trials and fill all four categories

Every action during a trial generates scoring events that turn into Bloodpoints at the end. They are split across four categories, different for survivor and killer, and each category is capped at 10,000 points, which puts the maximum per match at 40,000. That is why it pays to vary: if you have already maxed out repairing generators, switch to rescuing or to distracting the killer instead of repeating the same thing. Longer matches generate more events, so surviving a chase also adds up.

  • A spike of Bloodpoints per objective completed

    Daily Rituals

Daily Rituals are specific objectives tied to a character: performing a number of actions with someone in particular, hooking a certain number of survivors or completing generators. They pay more Bloodpoints than a normal match gives and they sit in their slot until you complete them, so they are not lost if you skip a day. If you get a ritual for a character you are not good with, you can discard it so another one enters the rotation.

Every week

  • Bloodpoints and Rift level progress

    Tome challenges in the Archives

Each Tome brings levels of challenges that unlock in batches over the course of the season. Claiming them hands out Bloodpoints and fragments that advance the Rift, and that progress counts on both the free and the paid track. The challenges usually ask for specific plays, so it is worth reading them before a session and chaining several of them in the same match. Bear in mind that Bloodpoints from challenges count towards the general five million cap.

  • Between 35 and 300 Iridescent Shards per level

    Raise your player level

Your player level rises with the experience from ranked matches and every level up hands out Iridescent Shards. The amount grows with the level: the first steps give between 35 and 275, and from level 50 onwards it settles at 300 per level up to 99. Past 99 the counter goes back to 1 and adds a point of Devotion, which is purely decorative. It is slow income but automatic, so it requires no planning beyond playing.

  • A Bloodpoint refund instead of the perk

Shrine of Secrets with perks you already own

The Shrine of Secrets rotates four perks every week and they are paid for with Iridescent Shards. If you buy a teachable perk you had already unlocked, the game returns Bloodpoints instead. It is not a method for getting rich, because shards are harder to gather than Bloodpoints, but it is useful to know before you spend by mistake. Check the weekly rotation and prioritise perks from licensed characters you don't own, since those are the ones you cannot get any other way.

Events only

  • Up to 2,500 Iridescent Shards per Rift, plus Bloodpoints

The free track of the Rift

The Rift's free track is available to everyone without buying anything and its levels are filled mostly with Bloodpoints, with Iridescent Shards scattered along the way and the odd loose cosmetic. Completing the free track gives up to 2,500 shards, which is the fastest route to that currency without paying. The Rift resets with every season, so anything you have not claimed before it closes is lost: check your progress in the final weeks.

  • Bloodpoints and shards exempt from the accumulation cap

    Official codes and anniversary gifts

Behaviour publishes promo codes on its official channels and hands out login rewards during events. This income is interesting for a technical reason: Bloodpoints arriving through codes, mail or logins do not count towards the five million cap, so they can push you past it. Redeem them from the game menu on the account you want them assigned to. Codes usually have an expiry date, so following the official accounts during anniversaries and collaborations pays off.

What does not work

No generator can add Bloodpoints to your Dead by Daylight account: the balance is handled on the game’s servers and there is no way to touch it from outside. If you arrived looking for one, we explain in detail how they work on the inside and why they always end the same way.

Frequently asked questions

How can you get Auric Cells without paying?

You can't. Auric Cells are bought in the in-game store and no activity hands them out. The only partial exception is the paid Rift Pass: if you buy it for 1,000 cells and reach level 70, the pass itself refunds those 1,000 cells. That does not generate new currency, it only recovers the initial investment if you complete the whole season.

How many Bloodpoints can you stack up before hitting the ceiling?

The cap is five million for everything coming from matches and claimed Tome challenges. Once you reach that figure, Bloodpoints from those sources stop adding up until you spend in the Bloodweb. Login rewards, codes and promotional mail are exempt and can go past the cap, so you may find yourself above five million without having done anything unusual.

What is the difference between Bloodpoints and Iridescent Shards?

Bloodpoints only work in the Bloodweb: perks, add-ons, offerings and in-match items. They do not buy cosmetics or characters. Iridescent Shards do buy Behaviour's original characters and the perks in the Shrine of Secrets. Neither of the two can be exchanged for Auric Cells, so characters licensed from films or video games still require real money.

How do you maximise the Bloodpoints from a single match?

By spreading your activity across all four categories, because each one is capped at 10,000 points. Offerings that increase Bloodpoints are applied at the end of the trial and do go past that per-category cap, while perks and add-ons that give extra points act during the match and cannot exceed the limit. Temporary events usually add multipliers that stack with each other on top of the base amount.
